Son, Netherlands — 20 October 2026: Melexis and Neways have entered a multi-year collaboration to co-develop advanced packaging for Melexis’ Triphibian® pressure sensors. The work focuses on compact, robust housings that protect tiny MEMS pressure chips while enabling reliable measurements in both liquids and gases and efficient high-volume production.
Why the housing matters
Triphibian sensors are micro-electromechanical (MEMS) devices that measure pressure directly in fluids and gases. While the sensor die performs the measurement, the surrounding package largely determines final accuracy, durability and manufacturability. Melexis and Neways engineers say they have jointly developed a compact housing designed to withstand demanding conditions while keeping the sensor small enough for space-constrained systems.
Target applications and scale
Melexis highlights thermal management systems in electric vehicles and temperature control in AI datacenters as primary initial targets for the new package. The companies also expect the design to be applicable across other markets that require compact and reliable pressure measurement.
Collaboration approach
Neways framed the project as an example of its advanced-packaging capabilities. The company says early-stage involvement in the sensor design allowed its engineers to address complex packaging challenges from the start, accelerating the path to a manufacturable product. Melexis said it selected Neways for that early-stage packaging expertise and its ability to translate sensor concepts into solutions that can be scaled for volume production.
The cooperation demonstrates a wider trend in the semiconductor and sensor supply chain: closer collaboration between chip designers and assembly/manufacturing partners to shorten development cycles and reduce technical risk before ramping to mass production.
