Amsterdam-based founders Loes Daniels and Jorik Schröder today launched Away.ai, a Netherlands-built AI travel platform that composes and books complete trip packages — flight and hotel — within minutes based on a traveller's preferences, budget and timing. The service is available immediately in the Dutch market.
One conversation, few personalised options
Away.ai replaces the long, manual comparison process that many travellers endure across dozens of tabs and websites. Instead of surfacing hundreds of raw search results, the platform uses a proprietary algorithm that translates stated preferences, travel party, timing and budget into a limited set of curated options prioritised for price-quality ratio. The company says the system also surfaces destination suggestions users might not have discovered themselves.
How the technology works
- Real-time pricing and availability: Away.ai’s backend searches thousands of flights and hotels for up-to-date prices and availability.
- Preference-driven matching: The algorithm condenses traveller inputs into a handful of tailored options rather than long lists.
- End-to-end booking: Selected trips can be booked directly through the platform.
Rewards and customer experience
Away.ai introduces a simple reward model called the Away Wallet. Customers receive 2% travel credit on each booking, rising to 4% if they pay fully from the wallet. Credits are redeemable immediately for future trips and, the company says, do not expire. The platform offers 24/7 customer service and holds IATA certification and membership in SGR.
Founders, background and ambitions
Daniels and Schröder previously built Experiencegift — the Amsterdam company behind Hotelgift, Flightgift, Traingift and Activitygift — which grew internationally without external investment and served more than a million travellers across 100+ countries. They say the travel-industry experience gathered since 2013 has been distilled into Away.ai’s recommendation engine.
Market context and plans
The launch arrives as artificial intelligence reshapes travel planning. Large industry players are investing heavily in AI-driven tools — for example, Expedia Group's recent acquisition of Berlin-based AI travel startup Layla — and Away.ai positions itself to compete by focusing on delivering the "right" choice rather than the most choices. The startup says it is built to scale internationally and already lists teams in Amsterdam, London, New York, Athens and Dubai.
Away.ai is available at the company's website and is initially targeting Dutch customers with international expansion planned. The founders say the platform aims to make booking as effortless as travelling itself.
